Subculture Coffee is best known for java and microbrews, but the coffee shop also serves a variety of salads, sandwiches and smoothies, along with granola and acai bowls. The focus is on healthy fare, and most items cost less than $10. A $12.50 cheese board is the priciest plate. The beer tap is located on the opposite side of the café, where the coffee sales happen.
Subculture is a hipster spot where downtown denizens hang out to work or take a break. The set-up is casual. You order at the counter, then wait a few minutes for your food. There are tables inside and a few spots to sit outside.
The lotus bowl ($8.95) — a salad with fresh greens and quinoa, avocado, chickpeas and other toppings — was a winner. We also liked the acai bowl ($8.95) and the smoothies ($5.95 each).
