USA Today: A Whimsical Diner in West Palm Beach


“Cooked in sight, must be right,” has been the Howley’s motto since it opened in 1950, and while much (if not most) of the casual restaurant industry in the USA has abandoned cooking nearly altogether in favor of reheating or plating prepackaged precooked foods from suppliers, here the from-scratch aesthetic is alive and well in a wonderful way. The menu even has a graphic of a microwave oven inside a red circle with a slash through it, and warns customers, “Howley’s is microwave free, please allow a little extra time as all our items are cooked from scratch in a real oven.”
